God Will Lead You

"The LORD went before them by day
in a pillar of cloud to lead the way."

Exodus 13:21

On a trip to New York City years ago, we had a tour to some historic sights. All along the way, our guide pointed out places of interest, giving historical facts about these special places. It was good to follow a guide who knew the way and could answer most of our questions about the landmark places. Life is somewhat like a tour with a beginning point and a sure end. Without a good guide, we could easily lose our way. Many people probably don't know that a perfect guide is available. The One who made us and knows all things, desires to lead us each step of the way.

The children of Israel were miraculously delivered from slavery in Egypt. In the wilderness, God led them each day on their journey. He used the Cloud of His Presence to lead them in the right way. All they had to do was follow. Unfortunately, they rebelled along the way and even refused to go on with Him at Kadesh-barnea. They had a choice like we do. We may rebel against God and refuse to follow. He knew the best path to follow and desired to provide for them all along the way. There was even a time when they wanted to turn back to Egypt and slavery.

Are you willing for God to lead you? He wants to lead you through a personal relationship. The Bible often uses the illustration of the relationship of a shepherd leading his sheep. We know that sheep have no sense of direction. They scatter and go astray. Each one goes its own way. There are times when a shepherd had to seek those sheep who had gone astray. God wants to be our shepherd. He really desires to lead us. Sheep followed a shepherd as they heard his voice. We follow God as we hear His voice. It's not a strange, mystical experience. His voice speaks to us through His word in the Bible. Anyone may hear and follow. He makes the way clear for us. God will lead you.

Prayer: Father, we seek Your leadership for our lives. As we read from the pages of the Bible, may the voice of Your Spirit speak to our hearts, making the way clear, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
