The Way to God

"Therefore brethren, having boldness to enter
the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,
by a new and living way . . ."

Hebrews 10:19

A man said to his friend, "I just don't understand why Christians think Jesus is the only way to God. I think there are many ways. To think that Jesus is the only way is religious bigotry." His friend said, "I'm a Christian and I believe Jesus is the only way. He's the only one to live a sinless life, the only one to die for our sins, and the only one to rise from the dead in a glorified body. He is God's one and only Son." The man replied, "Well, if I believed all that you do, I would also believe He is the only way."

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). We either believe what Jesus said or not. Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood for our sins. Through His resurrection, Jesus is the "living way" to God the Father.

With boldness, the believer is able "to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus." In the tabernacle, and later the temple, there was a room known as the Holiest. The Shekinah Glory, or the manifest Presence of God, was there. Only the High Priest could go there once a year. He came with the blood of a sacrificial animal, sprinkled it on the mercy seat, and asked God to forgive his sins and those he represented. That sacrifice pointed toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

As believers, we have the privilege of entering God's manifest presence through the Holy Spirit, because Jesus shed His blood for our sins. We enter with boldness, that is complete confidence. We enter a new life through the living way, who is Jesus our Lord.

Prayer: Father, we enter the Spirit of Glory through the blood of Jesus. Amen.
