"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour,
which is Christ the Lord."
Luke 2:11
which is Christ the Lord."
Luke 2:11
If Christ was not born, all the Old Testament prophecies about his coming would be wrong. The Bible would be nothing more than a book of stories from ancient man, which would be meaningless to us today. One of the evidences that the Bible is the inspired word of God is all the Old Testament prophecies fulfilled in Christ, in the New Testament. Prophets spoke about a coming Messiah centuries before His birth.
If Christ was not born, we would have no gospel. The gospel is good news about Jesus Christ. The news is that Christ died for our sins according to the Scripture and was raised from the dead on the third day according to the Scripture (1 Cor. 15:1-4). If there had been no manger for His birth, there would be no cross for our sins, and no empty tomb to prove that He lives. At Christmas, let us remember why Jesus came, "to seek and to save that which was lost" ( Luke 19:10).
If Christ was not born, we would not have assurance of heaven. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life; no man comes to the Father but by me" (John 14:6). This verse is in the context of one of the great passages in the Bible about heaven. Before Jesus was born, philosophers speculated about life beyond the grave. Most cultures told wishful stories about another life. However, the resurrection of Jesus Christ and His empty grave proves the life to come. "But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept" (1 Cor. 15:20).
Prayer: Father, thank You for the birth of Jesus. We receive Him as our Saviour and Lord. Amen.
