"For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us,
leaving us an example, that we should follow His steps."
leaving us an example, that we should follow His steps."
1 Peter 2:21
Charles M. Sheldon wrote a classic book entitled In His Steps. It told of a story where a pastor challenged his church not to do anything without first asking the question: What would Jesus do? The church was changed to minister in new ways. Many lives were changed. It was all because they followed the example of Jesus as taught in the Bible. Jesus is our perfect example. We know God's perfect will, when we ask the question: What would Jesus do?
The apostle Peter pointed to Jesus as the perfect example for enduring suffering. He wrote this message in a day when the church was being persecuted for following the teaching of Christ. Christians were beaten, placed in prison and martyred, simply because of their faith in Christ. The apostle Peter later became a martyr for Christ. His example in all things was Jesus Christ. Even in the face of suffering and death, he had the perfect example to follow.
Maybe you will find yourself in some difficult situations. You want to understand and do God's will. How can you know for sure the will of God? Jesus is our perfect example of doing the Father's will in all things. Christ was the will of God in flesh. In Him we see God's will. As you pray and seek God's will, ask yourself the question: What would Jesus do? When you have answered that question according to the Bible, then you know God's perfect will. We have a perfect example in Christ.
Prayer: Father, You have revealed Your will to us clearly, even perfectly, in Jesus Christ. Give us grace to do Your will through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
