"He has put a new song in my mouth - Praise to our God.
Many will see it and fear, and will trust in the LORD."
Psalm 40:3
Tom Allan was a famous preacher in Scotland at one time. He was converted to Christ listening to a man sing, "Were you there when they crucified my Lord?" He later testified that it was neither the voice nor the song, but it was the Spirit in which the man sang. God chooses to use songs to touch our lives. The Holy Spirit works through the message of the songs. The Old Testament book of Psalms is 150 songs to be sung to the glory of God. The Spirit of God inspired each song, and used them in worship to touch the hearts of people.
A man said to his pastor, "Don't take me wrong, but sometime I get more out of a song than a sermon." To his surprise the pastor quickly agreed. The pastor said, "Why do you think we sing a song after every sermon? The Spirit of God uses songs to bring people to Christ." Let us never under estimate the power of God to speak to our hearts through song. The faith of God's people has always had a song to sing. Even in heaven, the singing continues. "And they sang a new song" (Revelation 5:9). The Spirit of God always has a new song to bring glory to God.
Is there a hymn or gospel song that God has used to touch your life? Do you sometime have a song that just comes to mind about your relationship with the Lord? Sing it to the Lord. Maybe you think you are not a good singer. That's not the point. What parent would not love to hear a child sing? So it is with our heavenly Father. He loves for all of His children to sing. He has put a song in our hearts. He will put a new song in your mouth. Sing to the Lord.
Prayer: LORD, we offer our praise to You in song. Thank You for all the songs of Your love and grace that You have put in our hearts, all in the name of Jesus. Amen.
