"For God is not the author of confusion but of peace."
1 Corinthians 14:33
Perhaps you have attended a symphony concert. Before the performance begins, each musician is tuning his or her instrument. The sound is one of utter confusion. Discord would describe the musical sounds. After each instrument is properly tuned, the conductor moves to the platform. He directs each member of the orchestra to blend the sounds of their instruments into one song. The difference is apparent to all. Confusion gives way to the beauty of harmony to our ears. So it is in our lives. When we are out of tune with God, confusion and discord everywhere is the result. Only when we look to the direction of the Conductor of all things will confusion give way to peace.
The apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth. They knew the gospel. They had experienced the Holy Spirit working in their church and in their lives, but they had given over to flesh and confusion. The apostle is quick to inform them that God is not in their confusion. The problem was not with God. It was about people who were out of the will of God, which is the way of love (1 Cor. 13). He makes it plain that when God is at work, peace is the fruit apparent. The will of God leads us to love, which is confirmed by God's peace.
I suppose all of us have confusion in our lives from time to time. Sometime the confusion can be overwhelming. It's always a call to return unto God's will, obeying the truth of His Word. Peace is restored as we seek to know and do God's will. Confusion is a call to get in tune with God. As we yield our lives to God once again, His love reassures us, as peace confirms it. God is the author of peace.
Prayer: Father, when confusion disturbs our lives, we are reminded that You are not the author of confusion but of peace. We receive peace that guards our minds and hearts through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
