"Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears,
'Lord, I believe; help my unbelief."
Mark 9:24
He was a sophomore in college. His studies and new friends caused him to have many doubts about his Christian faith. He finally admitted to his dad that he was having trouble believing. He had battled with his doubts for two years, and he was overwhelmed with doubt and unbelief. He desperately asked his dad what he should do. His dad appreciated his honesty. He said, "Son, it's time to pray, and give your doubts and unbelief to the Lord. Then, ask Him to help you. He will." The son prayed just that way. Sometime later, that prayer was answered. His faith was stronger than ever.
In the gospel of Mark, chapter nine, a man came to Jesus desperately seeking help for his child. The father confessed that he was having trouble with unbelief. He was still looking to Jesus for help. Jesus performed a miracle in the child's life. That father did what all of us must do as we confront our doubts and unbelief. Confess unbelief to the Lord. Ask Him for help. As we look unto Jesus, all of our unbelief fades away. "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith" (Hebrews 12:2).
Are you having doubts or unbelief about the Lord working in your life or someone you love? Don't give up. Help is available. Talk to the Lord simply and honestly. Admit your doubts. Confess your unbelief. Ask Him for the help that you need. Ask Him to help someone you love. He is more than able to defeat our doubts. He can give us victory over unbelief. There is help for you.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, we come to You with our doubts and unbelief. We ask for Your help in our lives and in the lives of others whom we love. Lord, help our unbelief. Amen.
