"The just shall live by faith."
Habakkuk 2:4
I took the letter to my mailbox. I put it there for someone I don't know to take it for delivery. It will pass through many hands before arriving at its destination. I must trust that it will arrive where it is sent. The believer is like the letter, as we put our lives in God's hands. He has a destiny for us. Commit it all to him by faith. Let go and let God.
It's not always easy to live by faith. Doubt assails us. Unbelief attacks us. But, the faith of God's people is born of the Spirit. Tried and tested, it cannot be destroyed, because it is born in the believer's heart through the Holy Spirit. It is an abiding gift of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 13:13). Unbelief says, "How can I believe in God? I can't see him." Doubt says, "God may help me, or he may not." Faith says, "God has given me the ability to trust him in all things."
Like the letter is sealed for delivery, so the Lord seals us with the Holy Spirit of promise (Ephesians 1:13-14). He is our security. We are sealed for the journey. The Lord who received us, will deliver us. We can rest all in his hands. Faith commits all to the Lord, knowing that "he is able to keep that which I have committed to him until that day" (2 Timothy 1:12). Living by faith is like breathing. We trust God for every breath. It's in him that we live and move and have our being. That's living by faith.
Father, by faith we surrender our lives to you. We commit our lives to you through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
