"Esau . . . found no place for repentance,
though he sought it diligently with tears."
Hebrews 12:16-17
The service manager at the tire store said, "You have tread on your tires, but the sidewalls are not good. Take your thumb and press into the sidewall. It's soft, and that's dangerous. You could have a blowout." He had honestly educated the customer about dangerous tires. The tires were changed for new ones. Disaster was avoided. In life we must be willing to make changes or face the consequences. Sometimes, we don't see the danger of going on without change.
Esau sold his birthright in a weak moment for just a morsel of food. How sad. He made a quick decision that he could never change. He shed tears, but it was too late to change a bad choice. "He found no place for repentance." Repent means a change of mind. However, God does enable us to make good changes in our lives. We may grieve the things which we cannot change, but consider the things we can change.
The customer took the service manager at his word. He changed his tires before it was too late. Take God at his word. Ask him to change things in your life, which are not according to his purpose and for your good (Romans 8:28). Sometimes we need a change of heart about a situation or an attitude. God is able to change our hearts. The psalmist David needed a change of heart, so he prayed, "Create in me a clean heart , O God, and renew a right spirit within me" (Psalm 51:10). It's time for a change.
Father, change our hearts for our good and your glory through Christ Jesus.
