Take God at His Word

"Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven."

Psalm 119:89.

"A man's word is his bond." That's a statement that I have heard many times. It speaks of being trustworthy, dependable and true to a promise. God's word is His bond. He will not break His word. He has sworn with an oath. That's covenant. LORD, a name with all capital letters, is His covenant name. There is no way in heaven or earth that He will break His promises. We can take God at His word.

We can take God at His word to be saved. "Whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved" (Romans 10:13). Salvation is not about trying real hard, doing the best that you can, nor anything else but taking the LORD at His word.

We can take God at His word in prayer. Answered prayer is not about learning a formula, praying harder, nor praying longer. It's about taking God at His word. That's called faith, according to the Bible. "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17).

Knowing that there is life after death is not about philosophy, mystical experiences nor personal opinion. It's about taking God at His word. Jesus said, "I go to prepare a place for you and I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there you may be also" (John 14:3). We either take Him at His word or we don't.
LORD, we choose to take You at Your word in life and in death. We believe Your word is forever settled in heaven, through Christ Jesus. Amen.
