The Reason for All Things

"To Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."

Revelation 1:6

He had the reputation as the best private investigator in the nation. Cases that many law enforcement officers could not solve were quickly solved by him. A news reporter asked him, "How are you able to solve cases when others cannot?" He responded, "It is no secret. I focus on the motive until all others are eliminated, then I have my criminal." It was all about establishing a certain reason. As we consider the good works and ways of God, His reason is clearly found repeatedly in the Bible. He does all things for the praise of His glory.

The Bible speaks of the glory and dominion of God. The dominion tells us that He is the Lord God omnipotent. He is the sovereign God beside whom there is none other. The word glory tells us how His sovereign power is demonstrated, to His glory alone now and forever. He saves us, answers our prayers, works in our lives to bring glory to Himself. He made us for the good pleasure of His glory.

When we seek to know the will of God, we should ask one important question: "Will this bring glory to God?" Even doing something that seems to be good misses the mark, if it does not bring glory to God. The essence of sin is not bringing glory to God. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

The glory of God is the reason for everything. The apostle Paul wrote, "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Cor. 10:31). The glory of God is the reason you are here.
Father, may our lives bring glory to You in all things, through Jesus Christ.
