When You Ask God

"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to
those who ask Him!"

Matthew 7:11

A skeptic said to a Christian, "You Christians treat God like Santa Claus. You think He will give you anything that you ask." The Christian said, "No. God is not Santa Claus. Far better, He's a good heavenly Father. He will always give His children good things when they ask." That's what Jesus taught. Even evil people are capable of giving their children good things. How much better does our heavenly Father give good things to those who ask.

There are four aspects of prayer, including adoration, praise, thanksgiving and asking. Certainly, prayer is more than asking, and always should be. However, Jesus taught us how to ask in prayer. We are to approach God as a good heavenly Father. That doesn't mean that He will give us everything that we want. It does mean that He will give us those things that are really good for us. Father knows best. He knows what's good for His children.

Sometime we may be reluctant to ask God for good things in our lives. We should not be. If we really believe that He is our loving heavenly Father, who wants good things for us, then our faith will rest secure in His goodness. If He says no to our requests, it's always because He has something better for us.
Heavenly Father, we believe that You want good things for all of Your children, because You are good always. Give us today the good things that You have for us, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
