Renewing Your Mind

"I will give them a new heart, and a new mind."

Ezekiel 11:19

A man said to his pastor after receiving Christ as his Lord, "I can't believe what a change has happened in my life. I'm so different. I even think differently. It's like I have a new mind." The pastor said, "You do have a new mind and heart that God has given you." He then quoted Ezekiel 11:19 to the man. This is what Jesus referred to as the new birth. It involves repentance, which literally means a change of mind.

The gift of salvation is the work of God in the heart of man. It includes a change of heart, that refers to our mind, will and emotions. Only God is able to do this in our lives. It is the work of His grace within us through the Holy Spirit. It is a mystery that we cannot fully understand.

The renewed mind understands the gospel of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 15:1-4). The man whose mind is not renewed thinks the gospel is nonsense or foolishness (1 Cor. 2:14). The person with the renewed mind understands God's will. "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove that good, perfect and acceptable will of God" (Romans 12:2).

God, renew our minds to know Your will.
