Your Heart's Desire

"Where your treasure is,
there your heart will be also."

Matthew 6:21

The two little boys, ages six and eight, were excited about their vacation to the beach. Their dad always took them on a treasure hunt. Of course, dad always knew exactly where the treasure items were buried, because he planted them there. The boys took his hints and looked until they found their treasure. What is your treasure in life? Treasure may be defined as seeking our heart's desire.

When people admit to themselves what they are seeking in life, they know the treasure of their hearts. To some it may be success in accumulating wealth, popularity, fame or recognition for outstanding achievement.

Jesus calls our attention to the greatest treasure to seek in life. "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33).

Who among us desires God's kingdom or will, and His righteousness? None of us would unless God is working in our hearts. Evidence of His work in our hearts is known through our desires. "For it is God who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13). When He gives us a new heart, our desires change. We seek His will for our lives, and His righteousness found in Jesus Christ. Where is your treasure?

God, work in our hearts.
