"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above."
James 1:17
His son came home for a visit from college. He told his dad that he needed some extra money. His father didn't say anything about it. As the son was leaving to return to the college campus, his dad encouraged him to read his Bible every day. Several days later, the son called to tell his dad that he was short of money. His dad listened and then asked, "Have you been reading your Bible?" The son frankly admitted that he hadn't read his Bible as he should.
That night the son did open his Bible for the first time in many days. He found three one-hundred dollar bills between the pages. The father's gift was found within the Bible. So it is with all of our heavenly Father's gifts. The Bible tells us about each one of them and how to receive them.
The greatest gift that our heavenly Father has for us is love. Love is the greatest gift because God Himself is love (1 John 4:8). He loves each and every one of us, but the gift must be received. A gift cannot be bought nor earned. It can only be received or refused. God's gift of love is received by faith through His Son (John 3:16). To believe God's promise is to receive God's love.
By faith in Jesus Christ, we receive God's everlasting love. The experience of love divine comes through the work of the Holy Spirit within our hearts (Romans 5:5). Each day of our lives, God desires to fill us with His love (Ephesians 3:19). God's great gift of love is for you today and every day.
Father, we receive Your good gifts through Jesus Christ.
