God's Place for You

"In my Father's house are many mansions . . .
I go to prepare a place for you."

John 14:2

In New Testament days, wealthier people had servants. If they had a guest, the servant would meet him at the gate of the courtyard. He would have him to be seated, as he loosed his sandals to wash his feet. Then, he would go up the outside steps to prepare a guest room. The servant returned to escort the honored guest to his room. To be a guest meant that there was a place prepared for you.

Jesus used this illustration in talking about His death. He was going to prepare a place for us. He will return to receive us. If He can prepare a place for us in life beyond death, He certainly can prepare a place for us in this life as well. He has a place of service for us. He leads us to the place where our Father wants us to be. He has a place for every believer.

We can't prepare the place. Only the Lord can do that. We must patiently wait on Him to lead us to new places. We are only guests passing through this temporal life. All along the way, our Father in heaven has places prepared for us. Sure, we would like to know all the details ahead of time, but it doesn't work that way. He comes to us where we are. He serves us as honored guests. We follow His instructions as we read the Bible. We trust Him to lead us at the right time to the right place. He has a place for you.

Father, we give You thanks for the place You have for us in life and eternity.
