". . . so that I may finish my race with joy,
and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus . . ."
Acts 20:24
The apostle Paul looked upon his life as a race. He was using the illustration of a foot race. That was a popular sport. All the runners moved on the same track toward the goal. At the end of the race, the winner stood upon a step known as the bema to receive his crown of reward before everyone gathered in the stadium. Paul ran with joy to finish his ministry, seeking to faithfully reach the finish line.
What is your primary goal in life? Without a goal of purpose, life can easily become meaningless with wasted years. Joy comes when we know our goal, and we move in a certain direction toward the finish line. We may have many goals in life, but there should be a primary goal that gives life purpose and joy.
The apostle Paul was a tent maker in his vocation, but he had a higher calling. To be a faithful apostle of Christ was his primary goal. This was his calling and ministry. If you are a believer in Christ, you have a ministry. There are many different ministries in the body of Christ.
We read about the gifts for ministry in Romans 12:4-8. Every believer has a ministry gift. God puts a desire in our hearts for a particular ministry. What is yours? Run the race of life with joy, knowing God's purpose for your life.

God, give us grace to fulfill our goal in life through Christ.
