"When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic,
'Son, your sins are forgiven you."
Mark 2:5
A man said to a Christian, "How can you be so sure that your sins are forgiven? That would be wonderful, if I could be sure." His friend replied, "I know my sins are forgiven, because of the word of God. His word settles it." The Christian referred him to 1 John 1:9. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Faith says, "All of my sins are forgiven, because of the promise of God. I have His word." Unbelief says, "I need more than just words and a promise." Only faith can receive forgiveness through the mercy of God.
The paralytic man in Mark 2 was brought to Jesus on a stretcher by four men. They believed Jesus could heal him. The Lord did much more. He forgave his sins. Jesus healed the man as a sign that his sins were forgiven. Jesus said, "That you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins" (Mark 2:10). There were those present who still refused to believe Jesus had power to forgive sins. Seeing is not believing. "For we walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Cor. 5:7).
Are you sure that your sins are forgiven? Look to Christ alone, by faith alone. Trust in His word. Believe His promise. There is only One on earth who has the authority to forgive sins. All who trust Him can be sure that their sins are forgiven.
Lord Jesus, thank You for the forgiveness of all my sins.
