Our Constant Companion

"I am with you always, even to the end of the world."

Matthew 28:20

The Gospel according to Matthew ends with a wonderful promise to all believers. The last few words promise, "I am with you always, even to the end of the world." How can the living Christ be with us always? We can't see Him, but we have His promise. He is with us through the Holy Spirit. The word translated Spirit comes from a Greek word that means breath or air. The Spirit of Christ is like the air that we breathe. We can't see the air around us, but we all understand there is no life without the air we breathe. New life in Christ comes to us through the Holy Spirit, when we believe or trust in Him. He is with the believer now and always.

A senior adult lady was a widow. She said to a friend one day, "My husband is dead. My children are married and have moved away. All of my brothers and sisters have passed away. But, there is one who will never leave me. He's with me always." Her friend agreed. She knew the same relationship with her Lord. Just think, all relationships in life are temporary, except our relationship with the Lord. He is with us always. Not even death can separate the believer from Him (Romans 8:39).

Since the Lord is with the believer always, we must not ignore His presence. Talk with Him throughout the day. Ask for His wisdom with all of your decisions and problems. Even around others, we can pray silently, because He knows our thoughts. He shares His thoughts with us through wisdom and the words of Scripture. He's with us always.

Lord Jesus, we welcome You as our constant companion.
