"Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
and uphold me by Your generous Spirit."
Psalm 51:12
He was driving down the road when he saw a 1957 Chevrolet in a junk yard. It was not much to see, but he was so excited. That was his favorite automobile of all. He stopped to get a price on the old clunker. He was ready to buy it regardless. The car looked beyond hope, but in a few months time it was completely restored. He was so excited to drive around town in his restored Chevy. God is like that with us. Our lives can easily end up in the junk yard of defeat and failure, but there is always hope of restoration with God. His generous Spirit can restore the hopeless.
Most of us know the story of David. He was gifted as a psalmist, anointed by the Holy Spirit, but in a moment of temptation his life was wrecked. He was helpless, but he called out to God to forgive him and restore him. The Lord heard his prayer and granted his request. He went on to fulfill God's destiny for his life. David is listed as one of the heroes of faith in Hebrews 11. If God can do it for David, He can do it for anyone.
Do you need to be restored by God because of defeat and failure in your life? Restoration is not far away. As a matter of faith, it's only a prayer away. Psalm 51 would be a perfect prayer to pray for any one's restoration. Do you know someone else who has failed in their walk with God. Don't give up on them. Pray Psalm 51 for that person on your heart. God can take any life out of the junk yard and restore it. God can restore you.
Father, restore us to the joy of Your salvation.
