Yield to God

"The wind blows where it wishes . . ."

John 3:8

Even if your house is air-conditioned, it's good to sit in front of a fan when you come home on a hot summer day. We can easily control the fan, but we can't control the wind. Jesus described the work of God's Spirit to be like the wind. It's beyond our control.

Our Lord is a sovereign God who moves when, where and how He wishes. That doesn't mean that He works arbitrarily without giving us choices. It does mean that we can never control God. It also means that we are not always in control. Therefore, joy comes in yielding to God's good, perfect and acceptable will (Romans 12:2).

A sailboat waits for the wind to blow. It can't sail against the wind or without the wind. The only choice comes to lift the sails when the wind blows. To try to sail against the wind would be futile, yet when we try to live against God's good will, we miss the power and joy of life. Our situation becomes helpless and hopeless, sooner or later. The key is to discover and discern what God is doing in us and around us. Then, we lift our sails to do His will, yielding to His grace and power. Life takes on new strength. Joy returns and we are finally able to move forward with our lives.

Are you sitting helplessly, waiting for something good to happen in your life? Or, have you tried to make something happen which continues to fail? There is a better way. It's God's way. Discover the way His wind is blowing in your life. Lift the sails of faith and trust Him to empower you, as you go forward with God. Your faith will work. Your hope will be restored. Strength for living will renew you within God's will. It all happens when we yield to God.

God, we yield our lives to You.
