"Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
If anyone hears My voice and opens the door,
I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me."
Revelation 3:20
The light is bright and blinding, as the sun shines through the front windows of the house. The blinds on the windows provide a way to shut the light out. So it is in our lives, we can shut God out. He gives us the choice. Jesus painted a word picture in our verse for today. He only knocks and speaks at the door. We must open it, or we may shut Him out. He simply refuses to force Himself upon us.
There is no doubt that the sovereign Lord could pass through the door without our permission. After the crucifixion, the disciples gathered behind a locked door. The risen Lord came through the door in a way mysterious to us. He could do likewise at the door of our lives, but He will not. We have a choice. He works in our will and through our will (Philippians 2:13), but He never forces us against our will. If you choose to shut Him out, you may. When we open the door by faith, He always comes in to us. That's His promise for all who do so.
Have you opened the door to the Lord in your life? More than that, have you opened the door to Him in every area of your life? Or, have you opened every door to Him but one or two? Our lives are like a house. We may open the front door to our guests, without opening every door to them. So it is with the Lord. He desires to come in to every area of our lives without exception. Open your life to Jesus.
Lord Jesus, we open our lives to You.
