"Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow."
James 4:14
What Will Happen Tomorrow? So many people have a strong desire to know the future. Some even waste their time on horoscopes and fortune-tellers. The Bible speaks clearly to the subject. "Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow."
Why then do we have such a fascination about knowing what will happen tomorrow? All of us need security. I remember the words to an old song. "Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand, but I know who holds tomorrow, and I know who holds my hand." That song expresses faith in the God who holds all of our tomorrows.
What happens tomorrow has to do with God and you. God allows us to make choices today which impacts our tomorrows. We plan our calendars and prepare for the future, and so we should, but God may veto our plans. We have real choices in life, but God has the final choice. All of us who make calendar plans have had to reschedule from time to time. We ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that" (James 4:15).
Being too focused on tomorrow may rob us from the joy of today. This is the day God has given us that we may rejoice and be glad in it. Many things which we worry about concerning tomorrow never happens. So, let us plan and prepare for the future, and having done all, let us focus our energy and enjoyment on this day. The real issue with tomorrow is one of trust. Either we trust God with our tomorrows, or we frantically worry about many things beyond our control. What happens tomorrow is resolved, when we choose to trust God today.
God, we trust You with all our tomorrows.
