"Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
For we brought nothing into this world,
and it is certain we can carry nothing out."
1 Timothy 6:6-7
What is your goal in life? Many people choose the goal of accumulating wealth. I read about an athlete who made more than 250 million dollars in his career. He squandered it all. He really had nothing to show for it. Even those who accumulate and keep great wealth may not be content.
A millionaire was asked the question, "How much more do you want to make." He smiled and said, "I always want to make just a little more." Life is short at the longest. If we become consumed with being wealthy, we may miss the important things of life, time to enrich ourselves through faith, family, and friends. True riches are not found in dollars and cents, but in relationships with God and others.
"Now godliness with contentment is great gain." That's what the Bible teaches. Financial riches cannot guarantee contentment. Godliness is a life trusting in the living God, seeking to know and do His will. The result is being content. The profit is great gain. Jesus said, "What will it profit a man if he gain the whole world, and loses his own soul?" (Mark 8:36).
There is only one thing which we can carry out of this world, that's our relationship with God through Christ. "If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable, but now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the first fruits of those who sleep" (1 Cor. 15:19). Our personal relationship with God is the only thing eternal in this life. It is great gain, because He is a great God.
God, make us to be content in life through Jesus Christ.
