"I will pray the Father,
and He will give you another Helper,
that He may abide with you forever."
John 14:16
A man came to his pastor distressed. He said, "I have tried to live the Christian life and I have failed time and time again. I feel like giving up." The pastor smiled and said, "Welcome to the daily battle of every Christian. You're not alone. You see, we can't live the Christian life in our own power, so God our Father has sent the Helper. He's the Holy Spirit, and He is with us forever." How many of us as Christians have come to that point of defeat and failure in living the Christian life? The good news is that we don't have to try alone. Jesus prayed that the Father would send the Holy Spirit to help us.
Every believer is indwelt with the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9; Ephesians 1:13). We should not ignore His presence with us. It's important for every believer to search the Scripture to understand how the Holy Spirit helps us. Romans, chapter 8, would be a good start, followed by the Gospel of John, chapters 14 and 16. The Holy Spirit empowers us to live for Christ (Acts 1:8). He is our Helper forever. Recognize His presence. Trust Him to guide you into all truth through the Bible. Depend upon Him to help you in your prayer life. Allow Him to use you as a personal witness to others for Christ.
It is good for every believer to admit to God in prayer that we are weak and helpless to live the victorious Christian life without the Spirit of Christ. Let us ask our heavenly Father to enable and empower us to live for Christ. As God works in our lives through the Helper, let us be careful to give God all the glory. Never forget, the Helper is with us forever.
Father, we receive the Helper through Jesus Christ our Lord.
