Trusting God's Promises

"He is God, the faithful God,
who keeps covenant and mercy
for a thousand with those who love Him
and keep His commandments."

Deuteronomy 7:9

A couple bought a major appliance for their home. It came with a warranty for one year on all parts and performance. They had trouble with the appliance in just a few months. It needed to be repaired. They were not worried about it because of the warranty. They knew that it would be repaired without cost. However, they were upset to discover the manufacturer had gone out of business. The company went bankrupt. Their warranty was worthless.

God always works in the lives of His people through covenant. In some ways a warranty is like a covenant. Yet, a covenant with God is far more trustworthy, absolutely so. God never goes out of business. He is the everlasting God, and He works in our lives through His everlasting covenant (Hebrews 13:20-21). Jesus Christ, through His death, resurrection, and endless life, is the surety of God's covenant. Believers may know that the promises of God's covenant word are absolutely trustworthy.

The believer's prayer life is based upon God's covenant promises. God answers prayer according to His warranty of sure promises. Believers who have prayed to receive eternal life know that they are saved because of the promise of God. "Whosoever calls upon the name of the LORD shall be saved" (Joel 2:32; Romans 10:13).

When we pray about anything according to God's word and will, we know that He will grant our petitions (1 John 5:14-15). Prayer is based upon our faith in the faithfulness of God. God is faithful forever.

God our Father, we trust Your faithfulness.
