"Once at the end of the ages,
He has appeared to put away sin
by the sacrifice of Himself."
He has appeared to put away sin
by the sacrifice of Himself."
Hebrews 9:26
One evening every week, I remember it's time to roll the garbage can to the street. Sometime the next day, the garbage truck comes through the neighborhood. Later, I find an empty garbage can. We can accumulate a lot of garbage in a week's time. So it is in our lives, all of us have some garbage from the past. We have a choice to live in it or get rid of it. The Bible calls our garbage sin. God has provided a way for us to dispose of all our garbage. God asks us to confess it and forsake it. He will take it all away.
The author of Hebrews explains that Jesus came to put away all our sin through the sacrifice of Himself. God put our sins upon Christ at the cross. The apostle Paul put it this way, "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Corinthians 5:21). That leaves us with a choice to live in the guilt, condemnation and shame of our sins, or to confess and turn away from our sins, seeing them taken away at the cross of Jesus.
Do you have some garbage that needs to be taken out? The garbage of our past can be something that we live with everyday. Yet, there is a better way. Believe that God does not want you to live with condemnation and guilt. Receive the good news of Jesus Christ. Accept your freedom from all the garbage of the past. Trust Christ to take it all away. He will take away all your sins and give you His righteousness to be received by faith. Go ahead. Get rid of the garbage.
God, forgive us and cleanse us from all of our sins in Jesus name.
