". . . bringing every thought captive to the obedience of Christ."
2 Corinthians 10:5
Two Christian women were talking. The younger one said to the older lady, "I have had a thought that has bothered me off and on for years. Sometime it bothers me everyday. It's the memory of a sin I committed years ago. I know God has forgiven me, but the thought still bothers me." The older lady said, "Honey, do you think that you're the only one who has had that problem? I know what you are talking about. I had the same problem years ago, but I found a verse in the Bible that tells us what to do about it. That verse is 2 Corinthians 10:5. You bring that thought to the obedience of Christ in prayer. He knows what to do with it." That day the younger lady found the secret of dealing with such disturbing thoughts.
In 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, the apostle Paul reminds Christians that we are in spiritual warfare. A big part of the warfare is dealing with disturbing thoughts. The mind can become a battlefield. He points us to Christ who is always the source of victory. As believers, we have the privilege of pulling down every disturbing thought and bringing it captive to the obedience of Christ. Thoughts of guilt, temptation, confusion or fear can all be very disturbing and rob us of peace of mind. The power of such thoughts are broken through faith in Christ.
Do you have any thoughts that disturb you? Those thoughts can rob you of peace and joy. It's not God's will for you to be tormented by those strongholds of thinking. Bring them to Christ in prayer. Give them to Him. Ask Him to break the power of those thoughts over your mind. Remember that you are in spiritual warfare. More than that, always remember that Christ is our victory in every spiritual battle. Thoughts that disturb us are defeated through Christ.
Father, we bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
