A Father to You

"I will be a Father to you,
and you shall be my sons and daughters."

2 Corinthians 6:18

The father said to his preschool daughter, "Honey, I sure do love you, more than you will ever know." He hugged her. She asked, "But, daddy, why do you love me so much?" He smiled and said, "Because you are my daughter, and I'm your dad. And, that will never change. I love you always." That's the relationship God wants with us. He wants us to be His sons and daughters. By faith in Jesus Christ, we are adopted into the family of God. When we believe in Christ, the Holy Spirit comes into our lives. "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God" (Romans 8:16).

Some people are afraid to let go, and really believe that God loves them unconditionally forever. The heart of God is the heart of the Father. Yet, many of God's children allow fear to hinder them from receiving the fullness of His love. That fear may come from hurts and rejection from the past. There is a way to overcome all the hurts of the past, and the fears that hinder us now. "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. But he who fears is not made perfect in love" (1 John 4:18).

Knowing God as our loving Father is the real key that unlocks a wonderful prayer life. Jesus taught us to pray, "Our Father in heaven ..." That's it. When we resolve in our minds and hearts, that God really does love us and wants to help us, ideas about prayer are changed. Our lives are changed. Prayer is about a relationship with your Father. You are God's child.

Our Father, we receive Your loving kindness and tender mercy.
