Jacob whom I have chosen.
The descendants of Abraham,
My friend."
Isaiah 41:8
The Sunday School teacher asked the preschool children, "Who is your best friend?" Some answered mother, others said dad, still others mentioned someone in the class. One little girl said, "God is my best friend. He watches me all the time. I talk to Him every day." The teacher smiled and said, "That's so good. God wants all of us to be His friend." Later, the teacher said to the girl's mother, "I came prepared to teach her, but God used her to teach me." So it is that God wants to be your Friend.
Abraham is our example of friendship with God. God blessed Abraham in all things (Genesis 24:1). He wants to bless us as His friends as well, "that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith" (Galatians 3:14).
Are you God's friend? Would you like to be? The apostle Paul made it clear how every believer may be the friend of God. "And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise" (Galatians 3:29).
What is friendship with God? It is a personal relationship with Him through faith in Jesus Christ. We are all invited to be God's friend. He has made it possible through a covenant relationship in Christ. God says, "Abraham, My friend." He also knows your name and says, "My friend."
