who seek Your face."
Psalm 24:6
A woman said, "I don't believe anyone can really know God. You can't see Him. How could you ever find Him?" Her Christian friend said, "I can't see God, but I know Him by faith. I was seeking Him and found a personal relationship with Him." The woman said, "Well, that's good for you, but it doesn't work that way for me." The Christian said, "I pray that God will work in you, then you will seek Him and know Him. I want you to know Him." The unbeliever didn't understand, nor do any of us, until the Spirit of God begins to work in our hearts.
"There is none who understands. There is none who seeks after God" (Romans 3:11). Only when the Spirit of grace begins to work in our lives do we seek after God. He initiates our relationship with Him. We seek Him because He first sought us. "This is Jacob" which speaks of God's covenant through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Those who respond to God's grace seek God and find Him by faith. "By faith we understand" and "he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:3, 6).
To seek God's face is a metaphor which means to seek a personal intimate relationship with Him. It was an illustration from Bible days. During a wedding, the bride's veil was removed as the groom saw her face to face. They began an intimate personal covenant relationship in marriage. Those who seek God's face by faith shall not be disappointed. Seeking God's face results in knowing Him through a covenant bond.
God, by faith we seek You that we may know You through Jesus Christ.
