and washed us from our sins
in His own blood."
Revelation 1:5
Karl Barth was a world-renowned theologian. Once he was asked by a newspaper reporter, "What is the greatest theological truth that you have ever discovered?" After a pause of silence, he said, "Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so." Those are familiar words to an old hymn Yes, Jesus Loves Me. That's a song we usually think of children singing, but we never get too old to sing it.
The love of Jesus Christ is more than the words of a song. The love of Jesus is proven at the cross. He loved us as sinners (Romans 5:8). He died to take away all of our sins. People may have many different thoughts when they see a cross. When I see a cross, I am reminded of the love of God in Christ for me. His love took away all my sins. Yet, that love is not just for me. His love is for everyone. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son . . ." (John 3:16).
Can you say by faith, Yes, Jesus loves me? I certainly hope so, because He loves you whether you believe it or not. Take the question mark out of it. Trust His love for you. Unbelief says, "Why should I believe He loves me?" Guilt says, "I've done so many bad things in my life, how could He ever love me?" Doubt says, "Sometime I believe He loves me, but then I think it's too good to be true." Faith says, "Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so. The cross proves it."
Lord Jesus, I receive Your love for me.
