Pray and Receive

"Whatever things you ask when you pray,
believe that you receive them,
and you will have them."

Mark 11:24

A woman was depressed. Nothing was going right in her life. Her friend said, "Why don't we pray about these things?" She replied, "Honey, that sounds sweet, but it just doesn't work for me." Her friend responded, "It doesn't work for any of us unless we believe." That's what Jesus taught in our verse for today. In prayer we must believe to receive.

Prayer without faith is like owning a new car but losing your key. The automobile simply will not work until you find the key. The key to prayer is faith. How can we have such faith? Faith is a gift of the Holy Spirit working in our lives. The Holy Spirit uses the promises of the Bible to give us faith. "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). The sure foundation for our faith is the word of the living God. Faith is trusting God to do what He promised. Believers are standing on the promises that cannot fail, because God's word of promise is sure and steadfast.

How is your prayer life? Those who are believing and receiving from God know the joy of answered prayer. Faith to receive from God is simply trusting in the word of God. It is resting on God's sure promises. "For all the promises of God in Him (Christ) are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us" (2 Corinthians 1:20). To ask in prayer is not enough to receive from God. We must ask believing God. Doubt says, "I will ask of God and maybe He will answer, or maybe He won't." Faith says, "God has already promised. I'm taking Him at His word." Pray and receive.

Father, we believe all of Your promises in Christ are Yes and Amen.
