"Let us cleanse ourselves
from all filthiness of the flesh
and the spirit."
2 Corinthians 7:1
A man said to his pastor, "When I think of all the sins that I have committed, it makes me feel filthy. It sure would be nice to know that I'm clean before God." The pastor said, "All of us have sinned, and we often feel filthy or unworthy before God because of our sins. Be sure to know there's good news, we can cleanse ourselves through God's grace." The pastor shared Bible verses that teach us how to be cleansed from all sin. The man left his office that day at peace with God.
God has provided a way for all believers to cleanse ourselves at the cross of Jesus. All the filthiness, every spot and stain, can be removed through God's cleansing power. We confess that we have sinned and trust Jesus Christ to take away all of our sins. "The blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all sin" (1 John 1:7). By faith in Christ we receive cleansing from all the filthiness of the flesh and spirit. That is to say, God cleanses us from all sin in mind and body.
Are you cleansed from all sin? Maybe there is a particular sin from the past that robs you of peace and joy. As a believer in Jesus Christ, you can confess that sin to God, knowing the promise of His word: God is "faithful and just to forgive us our sins" (1 John 1:9). Simply take God at His word of promise. Doubt says, "I would like to believe God would forgive all my sins. Sometime I'm just not sure." Faith says, "I believe God. He is faithful to forgive all my sins."
Prayer: God, we have sinned. Forgive us and cleanse us in Jesus name. Amen.
