"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly
abundantly more than we ask or think,
according to the power that works in us."
Ephesians 3:20
A small group Bible study was talking about how God works in us. A woman asked, "But how can we really know that God is working in us?" The man who was teaching said, "We know by the fruit that is produced in our lives." She said, "I would really like to feel Him working in my life, but I don't." Again, the teacher responded, "You may not feel Him at work, but the fruit of the Spirit is the evidence. Fruit grows silently, but eventually it is noticed."
God works in the believer through the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). The first word mentioned that describes how God works within us is love. That stands to reason, because God is love (1 John 4:8). Love produces in us joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Each word describes a characteristic of love. It is God's will that we bear much fruit as He works in us.
Is God working in you? Many times we may be tempted to look for Him to do something sensational in us. That may happen on occasion, but most of the time He quietly and faithfully continues to work in every believer that we may experience His love. More than that, He wants us to carry His love into a world that doesn't know Him. God may be doing many things in our lives that we don't understand. The greatest gift He works in us is love (1 Corinthians 13:13). Through God's love, we know that He works in us.
Prayer: Father, work in us Your love today, that we may take Your love to others, through Jesus Christ. Amen.
