but for the glory of God."
John 11:4
A woman said to her friend, "I don't understand why God is letting me go through this bad experience. I'm trying to do His will and live for Him. I just don't understand." Her friend said, "I can't tell you why God is allowing you to go through this time of trouble, but I know how we should pray. Let's pray that God will bring good out of it to the praise of His glory."
The brother of Mary and Martha was sick unto death. They called for Jesus to come and heal him. Jesus did not come until after Lazarus died. Needless to say, the sisters did not understand. Jesus said that all of it was to the glory of God. He performed a greater miracle than healing a sick man. He raised him from the dead. God was glorified through His Son. It was "for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it" (John 11:4).
Have things happened to you that were discouraging and unexplainable? That probably includes most of us. We could cry out to God, "Lord, why?" The answer is that God is working to bring good out of all things for His children (Genesis 50:20; Romans 8:28). More importantly, He does all things to bring glory to Himself through Christ our Lord. When bad things happen to us, let us pray that God will bring good out of it and glory to Himself. The reason for all things is the glory of God.
Prayer: Father, in all things work for our good to bring glory to Yourself, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
