Your Goal in Life

To have direction in your life, you must have a goal. Without a goal, there simply cannot be any sense of direction. Some may choose wealth, fame, or pleasure as the goal of life. Before you choose a goal in life, please ask one important question: Will this bring lasting satisfaction?

A goal in life gives purpose for living. It could be very depressing if you thought that your life is meaningless. A sense of purpose gives you energy to move forward and provides a path for you to follow. Consider the end from the beginning of the journey. Otherwise, you could face wasted years with many regrets.

For those who follow Jesus Christ, the goal is clear. Jesus came to do the Father's will in all things. He always sought to please God our Father and serve others. He taught that the reason for life is to love God and love others. This translates into action. Doing God's will is obeying His word because you love Him. It is loving God by loving and serving others.

When you have a goal in life, it is always best to put it in a statement of purpose. Businesses and corporations often have a mission statement. It is usually summarized in one statement. As a believer in Jesus Christ, you find your mission statement, the goal of your life, in the Bible. The apostle Paul wrote these words: "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21).
