God's Word Prospers

God says, "So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void . . . And it shall prosper in the thing
for which I sent it."

Isaiah 55:11

The first time I went quail hunting, I was amazed at how the bird dog obeyed his master's voice. To see the dog point, and each command was obeyed, it was amazing. My friend's words were spoken to the dog that brought immediate results. So it is with God's word in this world. All nature is subject to His voice. Jesus showed His deity to the disciples, when He spoke to the storm and there was peace. He spoke as God incarnate.

A Roman army officer came to Jesus to seek healing for his servant. Jesus offered to go to his house. The officer believed that was not necessary. He said to Jesus, "But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed" (Matthew 8:8). Jesus said, "I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel" (Matthew 8:10). What was so great about the man's faith? It was faith alone in the word alone. He was not looking for a sign nor a sensational experience, just the word alone. Great faith is in God's word alone.

Jesus said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4). He was quoting from Deuteronomy 8:3. God's written word shall never be void. It will always prosper in God's purpose. When we read, pray and obey God's word, we can rest assured that it will accomplish God's will in our lives. God's word does not return void.

Prayer: Father, give us grace to live by Your word, through Christ our Lord.
